An end of an Era – and Exciting Times Ahead
The partnership between Jim and Jamie, who founded Flexitrans back in early 2005,
marks the end of a remarkable era. Their business relationship stretches back more
than thirty-five years, having first worked together in 1991.
Before launching Flexitrans, Jim and Jamie spent over fifteen years working side by
side at a leading general and project forwarding company. In 2005, with encouragement
and office space provided by their close friend Bob, they seized the opportunity to “go it
alone.” On Tuesday, 2nd May 2005, Flexitrans officially began trading.
A year later, they were joined by Ed, who established the company’s Worldwide Deep
Sea Division. Ed’s extensive experience in the deepsea market perfectly complemented
Jim and Jamie’s strong knowledge of the European forwarding sector — enabling
Flexitrans to offer a truly comprehensive, global freight forwarding service.
Fast forward twenty years: as Jim embraced his role as a proud grandfather, his focus
began to shift away from the fast pace of freight forwarding. His well-earned retirement
became official on Tuesday, 31st March 2026, marking the conclusion of an
extraordinary thirtyfiveyear partnership. With Jim stepping back from the business, a
new chapter at Flexitrans began under Jamie’s leadership.
As one of his first acts as Managing Director, Jamie recognised Ed’s longstanding
dedication and contribution to the company by inviting him to become a Director of
Flexitrans — an offer Ed proudly and gratefully accepted. Together with James and Will,
the team now looks forward to the next exciting era in the Flexitrans journey.

A few photos from Jim’s farewell and the following day’s handover…

Having been an advertsing board at our Local Football team’s ground (Felixstowe and
Walton United FC) for the past few years, we could not think of anywhere better than to
hold Jim’s retirement party. Meeting at a “local hostalry” before the game, a few beers
and brunch was enjoyed followed by attending the last game of the season.
